Sage Communications Partners: Our interns are critical to our public relations business. You are part of the Sage Communications team. The intern will provide some administrative support, conduct research, develop and update lists, and monitor the news. These tasks will be balanced with more practical experience such as writing client materials, researching topics of interest to the firm’s clients, participating in brainstorming sessions and assisting with strategy development. We also expect the intern to understand social media including Facebook, Twitter, etc. If over time the intern proves to be a skilled communicator, the perks of the job will increase.

Advertising Internship – Job Description
Overview – The position provides an intern with knowledge and experience in all aspect of advertising sales within ACBJ through hands-on involvement in selling and sales processes under the supervision and training of professional sales personnel. The Intern will be directly supervised by the Advertising Director with a Senior Account Executive assigned to mentor the intern on a day-to-day basis.
Duties –
• Gain proficiency with the Philadelphia Business Journal rate card and demographic information to assist in client interaction
•Become familiar with and understand how to position research and the editorial product for effective use in presenting the Philadelphia Business Journal (includes Media Audit, Readex and other research).
•Actively participate in sales meetings, team networking events and sales training including brainstorming and idea-sharing.
•Learn how to use Sales force for effective and efficient time/sales management
•Prospect for new business leads: review the PBJ and competitive media daily/weekly for sales leads to support reps.
•Cold call potential clients and assist the sales team with setting appointments.
•Help plan and coordinate sales promotion and marketing programs for special issues and/or specific sales objectives.
•Assist account executives and advertising director in developing sales proposals and assist in presenting the proposals to clients.

Save the Date: Kenneth Miller, Ph.D., to Receive 2009 Mendel Medal
On Friday, Nov. 20, Kenneth R. Miller, Ph.D., a professor of biology at Brown University, will deliver the 2009 Mendel Medal Lecture -- "Darwinian Grandeur: A Biologist’s Journey Through Evolution’s 'Tangled Bank'" -- in the Connelly Center Cinema (refreshments will be served at 2 p.m.; the lecture begins at 2:30 p.m.). This is an event not to be missed. On Saturday, he will be awarded the Mendel Medal. Dr. Miller is a pre-eminent evolutionary scientist. In addition, Miller is the author of the acclaimed book, Finding Darwin’s God: A Scientist’s Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution, a lively and cutting-edge analysis of the key issues that seem to divide science and religion. He contends that, properly understood, evolution adds depth and meaning not only to a scientific view of the world, but also to a spiritual one.
