The United States Department of State and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) are pleased to announce the availability of overseas scholarships for intensive summer language institutes in eleven critical need foreign languages. National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarship
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is accepting applications for the 2009-2010 National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships for undergraduate students for study abroad. The 2009-2010 Boren Scholarships provide funding for summer, semester, or yearlong study in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. national security, but are underrepresented in study abroad. After completion of the program, recipients are required to work in the Federal government for a period of time equal to the duration of the assistance provided under the program. Special Event Oct. 28: So You Want to Work in Washington, D.C.?
You're invited to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences three-part Series: "So you want to work in Washington, D.C.?" On Tuesday, October 28, the Internship Office in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will begin a three-part series called, "So you want to work in Washington, D.C.: What You Need to Know." This will be presented by the Honorable John C. Gartland, whose career in the nation's capitol began as a U.S. Navy ensign at the Pentagon, and then turned into a series of political appointments under five presidents beginning in 1968 and lasting through 2005. Hon. Gartland will discuss how to go about finding a job, such as networking, referrals, and personal visits, and what approach to use in an interview. The series begins on Tuesday, October 28, in the Haverford Room of Connelly at 4:30 p.m. The series continues on Wednesday, October 29, at 4:30 p.m. in the Haverford Room of Connelly, and concludes on Thursday, October 30, at 4:30 p.m. in the St. David's Room of Connelly. The series is open to all Villanova students.

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars is an independent, nonprofit organization serving hundreds of colleges and universities in the United States and other countries by providing selected students challenging opportunities to work and learn in Washington, D.C.; London; and Mexico for academic credit. The largest such program, with more than 60 full-time staff, The Washington Center has over 35,000 alumni, leaders in numerous professions and nations around the world. We would like to remind you that eligible students from your institution attending our program will receive a minimum of $2,500 in scholarship support during any spring, summer, or fall term. POLIS Literary Magazine -- Fall 2008 -- The Culture Issue. For this issue of POLIS, we are looking for essays, short fiction, poetry, photography, and art that all connect to the central issue of culture. Select a cultural trend and break it apart: how did it start, how has it manifested itself, and what effect has it had? Why does the phrase "go green" define a lifestyle? When did sushi become America's latest obsession? How has the Internet redirected our behavior? Or reflect on how an aspect of culture has changed the way you live, think, and act. Or express your ideas about culture through art or photography, capturing the world around us with your artistry. Whatever your viewpoints, express them. Explore how a trend has impacted both you and the world. Find your perspective on culture, and share it with the community. All submissions should be sent to polis@villanova.edu. The Jubilee Year of Paul
To inspire a renewed dedication to proclaiming the Gospel, Pope Benedict announced a special Jubilee Year to the Apostle Paul from June 28, 2008 to June 29, 2009, on the occasion of the bi-millennium of Paul’s birth, which historians have placed between the years 7 and 10 AD. In support of this declaration and in collaboration with the universal church, Villanova University announces a year long celebration of the Jubilee Year Dedicated to the Apostle Paul. It will be an especially important year with regard to envisioning a future enlightened by St. Paul's imagination and to retrieving the power of his letters for today.
