Chemistry Tutoring for First-year Chemistry Classes
Chemistry tutors will be available two evenings per week to provide homework help for students enrolled in first-year Chemistry classes. 2009 Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes
The United States Department of State and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) are pleased to announce the availability of overseas scholarships for intensive summer language institutes in eleven critical need foreign languages. Languages include: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
The Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S undergraduate students to study abroad for up to one academic year. The program aims to diversify the kinds of student who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go. Students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application. National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarship
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is accepting applications for the 2009-2010 National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships for undergraduate students for study abroad. The 2009-2010 Boren Scholarships provide funding for summer, semester, or yearlong study in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. national security, but are underrepresented in study abroad. After completion of the program, recipients are required to work in the Federal government for a period of time equal to the duration of the assistance provided under the program. Internship in the Spotlight: #1 -- Kennedy Space Center Internship: 10/15 -- Spring Term Application Deadline
The application deadline for the Kennedy Space Center Internship Program's (KIP) Spring Term is October 15. The KIP is a semester-long, on-site opportunity for students to receive a unique, unrivaled learning experience at the Kennedy Space Center. The KIP is open to undergraduate and graduate students of all majors as well as faculty members. The weekly stipends are as follows: $500 for undergraduate students, $800 for graduate students, and $1,400 for faculty. The Spring Term will begin the last week of January 2009 and end the first week of May 2009. NASA is now on the edge of a bold new challenge: the Constellation Program. This ambitious new endeavor calls for us to return human explorers to the moon and then venture even farther. At the same time, NASA must fly the remaining space shuttle missions safely in order to complete the International Space Station. Apply now to become part of this great legacy.

Intership in the Spotlight: #2 -- IHS Journalism Internships
Paid internships in print and broadcast journalism for undergraduates, graduates students, and recent graduates of all majors. As the field of journalism changes, real work experience and a diverse set of skills are now crucial to a successful career. The IHS Journalism Internship program offers hands-on paid broadcast and print journalism placements for the summer, spring, and fall. One application -- two possible tracks. Filling out an application gives you the opportunity to apply for placements at print newspapers and major media networks. All internships are paid and provide career training, and mentoring. We're looking for good writers passionate about liberty; previous experience is a plus but not required. Students from all disciplines, including political science and economics are encouraged to apply.

Internship in the Spotlight: #3 -- IHS Movie, Film, TV, Animation, and Video Game Production Internships
Want to fly to L.A. and work on a feature film? Dig into a freedom-oriented, social issue documentary? Assist in the production of an upcoming television comedy? Maybe you’re more into CGI, animation or video game writing and development? The Institute for Humane Studies Production Internship Program places interns in all these areas at industry majors and new, cutting-edge companies. Participants in our program typically receive: $2000 stipend for a ten week internship; housing and travel allowance; tuition and travel assistance for our career development workshop (attendance required); free novels and academic works on economics, history, and philosophy; networking opportunities in major media centers: NYC, LA, and DC.
The Production Internship Program runs year-round with three semester deadlines: Spring, Summer, and Fall. We offer positions as short as five weeks and up to 20 weeks at host firms. If you are currently in school, you can be considered for a part-time internship that would work around your courseload.

POLIS Literary Magazine -- Fall 2008 -- The Culture Issue. For this issue of POLIS, we are looking for essays, short fiction, poetry, photography, and art that all connect to the central issue of culture. Select a cultural trend and break it apart: how did it start, how has it manifested itself, and what effect has it had? Why does the phrase "go green" define a lifestyle? When did sushi become America's latest obsession? How has the Internet redirected our behavior? Or reflect on how an aspect of culture has changed the way you live, think, and act. Or express your ideas about culture through art or photography, capturing the world around us with your artistry. Whatever your viewpoints, express them. Explore how a trend has impacted both you and the world. Find your perspective on culture, and share it with the community. All submissions should be sent to polis@villanova.edu. The Jubilee Year of Paul
To inspire a renewed dedication to proclaiming the Gospel, Pope Benedict announced a special Jubilee Year to the Apostle Paul from June 28, 2008 to June 29, 2009, on the occasion of the bi-millennium of Paul’s birth, which historians have placed between the years 7 and 10 AD. In support of this declaration and in collaboration with the universal church, Villanova University announces a year long celebration of the Jubilee Year Dedicated to the Apostle Paul. It will be an especially important year with regard to envisioning a future enlightened by St. Paul's imagination and to retrieving the power of his letters for today.
