Falvey Scholars

Internship in the Spotlight: #1 Chico in the Morning Show
Chico in the Morning Show is now looking for interns for the summer 2009 Semester. Wired 96.5 does not require you to take this internship for credit, but you must be a current student. Student must be available at least two days a week from 5:45 AM until 12 noon.
Responsibilities: Interns will be expected to do research, edit audio, gather news stories, and perform other organizational tasks. While no experience is necessary, bear in mind that this is a VERY demanding internship and is recommended ONLY for students willing to make it a top priority. Internship in the Spotlight: #2 Sports Public Relations Internship -- Leighton Communications
#2 Sports Public Relations Internship -- Leighton Communications is a small PR firm located in Wilmington, Delaware. The firm represents a professional athlete and sports memorabilia auction house. The intern will assist in implementing a PR plan for an auction at the MLB All-STAR Fan Fest Auction in July. Duties will include writing press material assembling media lists, pitching media outlets, creating post auction media coverage report, and much more. Duties will also include participation in daily public relations needs of the professional athlete client. The unpaid position will run from May until late July. Internship in the Spotlight: #3 Terry Hines & Associates (THA)
#3 Terry Hines & Associates (THA) is a publicity/promotions agency located in Center City that executes local campaigns for major movie studios, including Paramount, Dream Works, Warner Bros, Lionsgate, and Summit Entertainment. Working with radio, television, newspaper, and online outlets, we create memorable campaigns for upcoming movie releases. Responsibilities: We rely heavily on interns to help with the day to day completion of tasks. Our interns play an integral role in every facet of what THA does, and will assist in coordinating promotional advance movie screenings, planning movie-themed events, writing copy for major local newspaper ads, coordinating grassroots campaigns to promote/publicize films, and servicing as a liaison to local universities. No experience is necessary, but an interest in marketing, promotions, and/or publicity is a plus.
Most interns work about 15 hours a week, but we are very flexible in terms of days/hours. Interviews will begin immediately. Please email your interest with a resume and cover letter to the address listed below.

Deadline for Summer 2009 Applications is Monday, April 27, 2009. City Paper, a 27-year-old media company based in Philadelphia. It is an alternative newsweekly distributed throughout the seven-county region around Philadelphia. This internship requires a familiarity with the Philadelphia area and an interest in contemporary arts and culture. Responsibilities: primary responsibilities include keeping up with weekly beats for our listings section and writing weekly entertainment-oriented columns. Interns typically put in anywhere from 10 to 20 hours per week (scheduling is flexible). Other duties include: pitching/writing short pieces for the weekly agenda/arts agenda sections; pitching/writing features for the arts, music, and food sections; pitching/writing content for our various blogs; conducting research; transcribing interviews; fact checking; and developing and pitching your own story ideas. We are more than willing to work with your school in regard to college credit. All internships are unpaid.

The Philadelphia Local of the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists in Association with Villanova University and Temple University present the 2009 Broadcast & Entertainment Industry Career Day. The event will be held on the campus of Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania. If you are considering a career in the broadcast or entertainment industry, or are already a part of the industry, the career day will give you a chance to learn from and meet broadcast and entertainment professionals from several areas of the industry. Four panel discussions are planned with local Philadelphia Professionals. The event will be held at Driscoll Hall, Room 134. From the Local to the Global: International SustainAbility Conference will be held on Villanova's campus from April 23 to April 26. The keynote address will be given by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Sustainability, by one definition, means development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. Other understandings contest this definition, asking whether it is too centered on human needs and marginalizes the needs of other planetary inhabitants. Whatever definition we apply, all meanings of sustainability imply a responsibility to other members of our earth community. We seek the sharing of perspectives on this vital responsibility via a range of formats, including panels, poster sessions, workshops, and round tables that address the scientific, humanistic, political, economic, and ecological challenges and opportunities of true Sustainability.
