Do You Want to Converse in a Foreign Language?
French, German, Italian, and Spanish language tables meet every week; all levels of speakers are welcome and encouraged to attend, for however long or little. All tables meet over lunch in the Italian Kitchen in Dougherty Hall. The German table meets Mondays, 12-1:15, in the IK; French, Tuesdays, 12:30-2, in the IK; Italian, Thursdays, 1-2:30, in the IK; Spanish, also Thursdays, 12:45-2:15, in the IK. This is organized by Dr. Bernard G. Prusak, funded by VCLE, and co-sponsored by the language departments.

Theology and Religious Studies Open House
Monday, March 16, at 3 p.m., First Floor Lounge, Falvey Library. Thinking about taking your upper level theology course in the fall? Wondering how many more credits you would need for a theology major or minor? Finally want to get a straight answer on whether God exists? Need a mid-afternoon snack? Connelly-Delouvrier International Scholars Program
The Connelly-Delouvrier International Scholars Program is designed to provide financial support for one semester of study abroad for a select group of academically talented students. The program offers a culturally broadening and intellectually maturing experience, while at the same time building lasting relationships with host institutions that will benefit future Villanova students. The program is open to students taking courses in the Honors Program, whether or not they are pursuing a formal Honors degree, and to students who are Presidential Scholarship recipients. The deadline for submitting the application (online and supplemental materials) is Wednesday, March 18, 2009. SUMMER INTERNSHIP IN THE SPOTLIGHT
A VU alum from 1997, now a hiring manager for Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), contacted the Internship Office with the following opportunity:
We are looking for an autonomous, driven individual who enjoys creating communication channels through computer skills. The summer intern will identify and implement Communication Vehicles for Downstream Process Development team and Biopharmaceutical Operational Excellence network. Responsibilities include: Design and startup a portal for Downstream Process Development based on communication needs; develop governance and workflow for maintenance of site and transfer ownership; design and startup a portal for Biopharmaceutical Operational Excellence based on communication needs; develop governance for maintenance of the site and transfer ownership; support database design and implementation as determined by the Biopharmaceutical Development Team, including data compilation, migration and verification.
The alum went on to say that the job does not require a specific degree track, just someone who enjoys working with computers as in web development and database development. Vizion Group, Berwyn, PA -- Public Relations/Marketing Intern
Vizion Group is a full-service event marketing and public relations services company with a prominent array of clients including NBC Sports, NBC Entertainment, Carson International, The NephCure Foundation, the Sister to Sister Foundation, and more. RESPONSIBILITIES: Support person with key responsibilities surrounding the implementation of PR plans for sports and entertainment events, includes creation and maintenance of media outlet list databases, research, writing, social media outreach (blogs and podcasts), and some direct contact with traditional media. Intern must be self-motivated to fit in as a focused operative and a team player. Management makes significant effort to providing challenging tasks in addition to requiring basic intern work. Internship is unpaid. Vizion requires that you receive academic credit. Commitments of 12, 20, 30, or 40 hours a week can be accommodated. Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia -- Teaching Intern (paid position)
Breakthrough (BT) is a tuition-free academic enrichment program for low-income, high-potential middle school students. Through a six-year program offering school-year enrichment, year-round academic support, extra-curricular enrichment activities, and two intensive six-week summer sessions, BT empowers students to succeed in academically rigorous high school programs. The organization's young teachers write curriculum, plan and implement lessons, manage their own classrooms using positive discipline techniques, attend daily faculty meetings, lead extra-curricular committees, conference with parents and guardians, receive on-going professional development, and do any and everything else necessary to ensure that their students are learning and growing -- and having fun while doing so. Time commitment: 8 weeks – June 19 to Aug. 14.

20th Annual Elizabeth Cady Stanton Conference
The 20th Annual Elizabeth Cady Stanton Conference will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009. The event will culminate in a keynote address by Linda Greenhouse, the Supreme Court reporter for The New York Times. Every spring, the Gender and Women's Studies program organizes the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Conference to highlight and celebrate the incisive work produced by students from all across campus during the previous year. It features a number of panels where both undergraduate and graduate students present their work, as well as a keynote address from an invited scholar.

William E. Cross, Jr., to Visit Campus Wednesday, March 18
"Stigma, Culture, and the Everyday Enactment of Social Identity," Wednesday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in Connelly Center. William E. Cross, Jr., is one of America's leading theorists and researchers on black identity development, and his text, Shades of Black (Temple University Press, 1991) is considered a classic. Over the course of his career, Dr. Cross has held positions in Psychology and Africana Studies at Cornell University, Penn State University, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Before moving to UNLV in the fall of 2008, Dr. Cross was Professor and Head of the Doctoral Program in Social-Personality Psychology and coordinator of African American Studies at the Graduate Center, City University of New York.
