GRANTS AND AWARDS
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is pleased to announce the launch of a new full-funded summer seminar/internship program in Berlin for American journalism and communication students. Scholarships will be awarded to 20 students who have at least advanced intermediate German language skills to take part in a structured 11-week study/internship program in Germany. National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarship
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is accepting applications for the 2008-2009 National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships for undergraduate students for study abroad. The 2008-2009 Boren Scholarships provide funding for summer, semester, or year-long study in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. national security but are underrepresented in study abroad. After completion of the program, recipients are required to work in the Federal government for a period of time equal to the duration of the assistance provided under the program. Deadline: February 12, 2008

Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program
The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program provides undergraduate and graduate funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. Students who apply during their sophomore year are eligible for funding for their junior and senior years of college and paid State Department summer internships in Washington, D.C., and overseas. Graduating seniors and recent graduates are able to apply for the graduate fellowship, which includes funding for their first and second year of graduate school and paid State Department internships in Washington, D.C., and overseas. Deadline: February 4, 2008

Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program
The Whitaker International Program is a competitive grant that is targeted at sending emerging leaders in the field of biomedical engineering overseas to increase international collaboration in the field. MATH MAJORS: Sesame Place (Begins in May)
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
reconcile the revenue totals to cash received for all cash handling departments; calculate park's daily attendance; maintain and process all daily management revenue reports; make necessary adjustments to revenue; random auditing of cash handlers; and support and demonstrate Sesame Place World Class Service philosophy.

Morgan Stanley: Summer 2008
Morgan Stanley is recruiting juniors for the Summer Analyst program. This program is a 10-week internship opportunity that is designed as a feeder for the full-time programs. The program typically includes opportunities to develop professional and technical skills, attend senior management presentations, participate in numerous networking events, and perform community service. Morgan Stanley is looking for a bright, open-minded, and diverse workforce. The company wants students who have proven themselves through teamwork, leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, and public service. There is a minimum GPA requirement of 3.0. All programs involve a rigorous selection process including r?sum? reviews and two rounds of interviews. Pennsylvania Treasury Department: Summer 2008
The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is now accepting applications for its paid summer internship program for college students. A Treasury internship offers students a challenging and rewarding work experience while providing a competitive salary in the Commonwealth's capitol. As Pennsylvania's bank, Treasury plays a critical role in state government operations. Treasury acts as the custodian, investor, and disburser of the funds of nearly all state agencies. Offering a wide variety of internship assignments, Treasury's internship program affords college students a chance to gain valuable experience in various aspects of public finance and policy. Applicants should have a major in Public Policy or Information Technology, strong computer and administrative skills, and writing and researching abilities.

Workshop: How to Research Professional Opportunities
What are you going to do with your degree? How will your studies and activities translate into a professional opportunity? How can you market yourself for positions? Using online resources, you will learn how to research professional opportunities. You will learn how to assess your transferable skills, qualities, and personality characteristics and match these qualities to positions, industries, and professions. These strategies will jumpstart your internship or job search and enable you to market yourself effectively for professional opportunities. This workshop will be facilitated by Karen Graziano, J.D., Assistant Professor, English Department, Law School Advisor, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Academic Advisor, Office of Advising and Professional Development. Reminder: Sophomore Service Learning Community Applications Due
The application deadline for the Sophomore Service Learning Community is Wednesday, Jan. 30. All applicants must be interviewed. The learning community includes three hours of service per week, enrollment in a SLC class, and "Fourth Hour" reflection on service (a one-credit course). This allows students to combine theory in the classroom with reality in service. Students build a community together in Alumni Hall and build relationships at their service sites in the Philadelphia area.
