GRANTS AND AWARDS
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarships
Highly qualified undergraduate students are invited to apply for scholarships funding study, senior thesis research, and/or internships in Germany from four to 10 months. Scholarships are available either as part of an organized study abroad program or as part of an individual, student-designed study abroad semester or year. Deadline: January 31, 2008

National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarship
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is accepting applications for the 2008-2009 National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships for undergraduate students for study abroad. The 2008-2009 Boren Scholarships provide funding for summer, semester, or year-long study in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. national security but are underrepresented in study abroad. After completion of the program, recipients are required to work in the Federal government for a period of time equal to the duration of the assistance provided under the program. Deadline: February 12, 2008

Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program
The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program provides undergraduate and graduate funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. Students who apply during their sophomore year are eligible for funding for their junior and senior years of college and paid State Department summer internships in Washington, D.C., and overseas. Graduating seniors and recent graduates are able to apply for the graduate fellowship, which includes funding for their first and second year of graduate school and paid State Department internships in Washington, D.C., and overseas. Deadline: February 4, 2008

Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice and Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice
The Wellstone Fellowship and the Villers Fellowship both focus on issues of health care for low-income communities and communities of color. Both fellowships are year-long, full-time, salaried positions at Families USA in Washington, D.C. Each year, one candidate is selected for each fellowship. Selected fellows will receive a compensatory package that includes a stipend of $35,000 and excellent health benefits. The deadline is January 15, 2008. Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program
The Whitaker International Program is a competitive grant that is targeted at sending emerging leaders in the field of biomedical engineering overseas to increase international collaboration in the field. 92.5 WXTU in Philadelphia is currently looking for several motivated and ambitious interns for the spring semester 2008. The ideal candidates are students who are focused on Public Relations/Marketing or Radio Broadcasting. The station is looking for students to help both in and out of the office, at 92.5 WXTU, assisting with the daily responsibilities and duties in radio promotions and programming departments. The students must receive college credit for this internship; there is no financial compensation.

State Senator Connie Williams -- Spring Internships Available
State Senator Connie Williams is currently seeking qualified college students for internships in her District Offices in King of Prussia and Havertown. The 17th State Senate District includes the municipalities of Bridgeport, Conshohocken, Lower Merion, Narberth, Plymouth, Upper Merion, West Conshohocken, East Norriton, and Norristown in Montgomery County and Haverford and Radnor Townships in Delaware County. Part-time internship with a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Responsibilities include: assist District Office staff in responding to issues/problems raised by constituents of the 17th Senate District; attend public meetings on behalf of the Senator and prepare written summary of meeting; perform a variety of legislative support assignments as defined by the District Director; assist in the composition of letters and background materials for use by Senator and other District staff; and perform related administrative work as required.
Interns will be encouraged to spend a day with the Senator in Harrisburg while the legislature is in session.
