GRANTS AND AWARDS
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarships
Highly qualified undergraduate students are invited to apply for scholarships funding study, senior thesis research, and/or internships in Germany from four to 10 months. Scholarships are available either as part of an organized study abroad program or as part of an individual, student-designed study abroad semester or year. Deadline: January 31, 2008

National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarship
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is accepting applications for the 2008-2009 National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships for undergraduate students for study abroad. The 2008-2009 Boren Scholarships provide funding for summer, semester, or year-long study in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. national security but are underrepresented in study abroad. After completion of the program, recipients are required to work in the Federal government for a period of time equal to the duration of the assistance provided under the program. Deadline: February 12, 2008

Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program
The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program provides undergraduate and graduate funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. Students who apply during their sophomore year are eligible for funding for their junior and senior years of college and paid State Department summer internships in Washington, D.C., and overseas. Graduating seniors and recent graduates are able to apply for the graduate fellowship, which includes funding for their first and second year of graduate school and paid State Department internships in Washington, D.C., and overseas. Deadline: February 4, 2008

Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice and Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice
The Wellstone Fellowship and the Villers Fellowship both focus on issues of health care for low-income communities and communities of color. Both fellowships are year-long, full-time, salaried positions at Families USA in Washington, D.C. Each year, one candidate is selected for each fellowship. Selected fellows will receive a compensatory package that includes a stipend of $35,000 and excellent health benefits. The deadline is January 15, 2008. Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program
The Whitaker International Program is a competitive grant that is targeted at sending emerging leaders in the field of biomedical engineering overseas to increase international collaboration in the field. The grant is awarded based on an activity/project proposal that is relevant to biomedical engineering. Deadline: February 11, 2008

History Majors: PHMC Internship Program  Summer 2008
Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is accepting applications for its summer internship program. The deadline to apply is January 25, 2008. The program runs from May 19, 2008, until mid August. A small stipend may be available.

Hollister Publications  Spring/Summer 2008
Hollister is looking for a well-organized person with superior English language skills, including a solid grasp of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. The position is suitable for a person aspiring to a career in journalism, public relations, or communications. Much of the material the intern will be editing is advertorial in nature (the print version of an infomercial), so the position may also be of interest to those aspiring to a career in advertising. The intern will gain experience in a busy publishing company organizing content, editing press releases, writing headlines and captions, proofreading, and collaborating with graphic designers on a final product. Hollister provides graphic design and content development for publications, promotions, and Web sites. Editors work closely with designers to produce compelling content and content-driven design. Hollister is located in Wynnewood, Pa., one block from the SEPTA R5 train station.

IHS Journalism Internships  Application Deadline: Jan 31
IHS Summer journalism interns get real reporting experience, writing for a daily Freedom Communications newspaper in locations all over the United States. Previous program participants have been placed at newspapers in Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; Dallas; and Orange County, California.

Interested in exploring the worlds or journalism and communications? Looking for an on-campus internship experience? Then consider working in the Office of Communications in the Dean's Office of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
